Every lesson starts with the person in front of me.
Whether you're an adult returning to the piano after years away, or a fellow piano teacher looking to deepen your own playing, our work together is shaped entirely around you — your goals, your taste in music, and the way you learn best, all at a pace that suits your life.
Musicianship at the centre
Alongside technical development, equal weight is given to interpretation: shaping phrases, helping you to find your own musical voice and playing with real expressive intent and understanding. That happens when musicianship is placed at the centre of every lesson. Together, we explore:
the harmonic framework underpinning a piece - how the chords and key relationships shape its character
its structure - how a piece is built and how that impacts the way you play it
the cultural and historical context - understanding a piece as more than notes on a page, but as music that belongs to a time, place and traditions
A personal progression map
Working from this musicianship-led framework, I help every student to create a personal progression and development map — broken into focused four-to six-week modules that build, across the year, into a clear year-long overview, with a longer-range sense of where you're heading over the next two to three years. It means every lesson has real purpose, while always staying flexible enough to follow your interests as they grow.
